Top 6 Ways To Kill A Betta Fish

1) Don't change its water frequently enough. 1 gallon betta bowls should be cleaned every 5 days. 2-5 gallon bowls should be cleaned every 10 days.

2) Overfeed the betta. Bettas should be feed no more than once a day. Portion size should be no more than what they can eat in 2-3 minutes. Remove any leftover food from the bowl at that time.

3) Use straight tap water. Water should be treated to remove chloramines if necessary, and should be around neutral pH.

4) Put the betta bowl in a cold spot. Bettas need to be kept warm.

5) Handle the betta, or let it jump out of its bowl. Bettas shouldn't be touched, and need a reasonable barrier so they can't jump out of their bowls too easily. Keeping the water level 2-3 inches below the rim helps.

6) Keep two male bettas together. The picture above wouldn't last long. Within minutes, one of the bettas would have its fins shredded. Within hours it would show signs of stress and within days it would get sick and die.
