The following pages will walk you through diagnosing what's wrong with your betta and what you need to do about it. Even if its 2am and you can't get to a pet store, there's still a lot you can do to help your betta.

Have patience with the first few questions, the first ones are important to separate out different sick betta populations. Your specific problem will be addressed in the next few pages.

Let's start with how your betta's body looks. Is it covered with any white film or white specks, or white cottony stuff? The "stuff" does not necessarily have to be white... just look for anything wrong with your betta's scales. Check if your betta's fins are rotting or getting really ragged really quickly (and without having fought another fish). Also watch your betta to see if it seems to be rubbing itself against the gravel or tank ornaments, sort of like it was trying to itch itself. Finally, has your betta has been beaten up by another fish or gotten banged up somehow?
